Is Kindness For Sissies?

Does the world really want good deeds and kindness?

Of course, there are a lot of New Age books out there that discuss the Law of Attraction, the manifesting of your goals by intending it to be so.

But, when you look around, what do you see happening more--people getting rewarded for doing kind deeds in mundane ways, or people getting "ahead" by grabbing as much as they can for themselves, as fast as possible?

And so, I ask the question: why is it so difficult to
"make it" in this world, living by principles of kindness?

If we truly wish for more kindness, then why do we create/support systems that trample kind people, penalizing them for being, well...too nice.

Ever see that happen? The really kind person at work that gets her teeth kicked in because she isn't willing to dump her family and travel every 12 out of 20 days?

Or the really quiet, gifted artist who can barely put a roof over his head because he's not really cut out for the hard-nosed corporate scene?

And how many hard-charging people wish they could soften a bit, get more in-touch with who they see themselves becoming in this lifetime, yet fear that showing their soft-underbelly would get them eviscerated and sent packing?

Offset these examples by Golden-parachutes and corporate mis-management that results in polluted waterways, ruined oceans, contaminated soil and huge bonuses for the top dogs.

Meanwhile, life around us is accelerating and we don't really have time for kindness, patience, compassion. That takes patience, practice, and dedication--we just don't have for that stuff!

At the end of the day, I see so many good people just striving to get on track with their lives, their health, their goals. And they are, for the most part, kind. But many are lost.

Is kindness enough to get along well on this planet? Or do the meek really not inherit the earth?

Your thoughts?
