Why Does Coffee Make PMS Worse For Some Women?
It's true...for some women, coffee is just the trigger that sets off their PMS symptoms, or at least puts them over the proverbial edge when PMS is lurking around the corner. Why is that? From a Traditional Chinese Medical (TCM) perspective, women with PMS tendencies will feel worse after drinking coffee, but only after some time has passed. Initially, a woman with PMS, drinking coffee, may actually feel better after consuming the roasted brew. Why? Because coffee has an initially stimulating effect on the system, and in cases of PMS, where TCM states that a woman's "stagnant" Liver energy is the cause of the PMS, the stuck Liver energy will be moved a little by coffee's initial stimulant qualities. However, once the buzz wears off, and the stimulants dissipate, you are left a little in the dumps, and the energy stagnation returns. And often worse than before! It's like kicking a party out of your house, only to have the people return with more rowdy friends. And so it is with stagnation moving and then returning. In TCM, as Liver stagnation increases, PMS symptoms increase. For long-term relief from PMS, you will need to clear Liver stagnation. Body movement/exercise, dietary changes, acupuncture and herbal remedies are all potentially useful for conquering PMS. Check out what you can do for yourself by investigating herbal formulas designed for PMS. I have a particularly helpful herbal PMS formula that I use in my natural health clinic, and have on my website. You can read about it there if you are so inclined. You'll want herbs that are slightly sour and bitter, to relive PMS, as they drain the Liver and circulate its energy. Hope this was useful to you...
